Teens (A2 Key for Schools | B1 Preliminary for Schools)
Building Skills, Confidence & Communication
During Years 5 and 6, students move towards a deeper and more mature understanding of English. They explore increasingly complex grammar and vocabulary, including phrasal verbs and everyday expressions, while developing the language skills needed to communicate with greater accuracy, fluency and confidence.
Writing becomes an important focus at this stage, with students learning how to organise their ideas, develop arguments and produce a variety of age-appropriate text types. Through discussions, debates, presentations and project work, they are encouraged to think critically, express their opinions and communicate their ideas clearly.
At this level, English becomes the language of the classroom. Students are encouraged to communicate, interact and participate entirely in English, allowing them to use the language naturally throughout the lesson and develop greater confidence and fluency in speaking.
Authentic materials, reading, technology, videos, interactive quizzes and collaborative projects bring English beyond the textbook and expose students to real-life language, topics and situations. As they mature, students are encouraged to take greater responsibility for their learning and become increasingly independent learners.
Our aim is to develop students who don't simply know English, but can confidently use it to communicate, think, discuss and express themselves.
A Pathway to Cambridge English Qualifications
During Years 5 and 6, students continue their Cambridge English examination journey, progressing to more advanced qualifications that reflect their developing language skills:
Year 5 — A2 Key (KET)
Year 6 — B1 Preliminary (PET)
Exam preparation is integrated into the programme, helping students become familiar with the required skills and exam format while continuing to develop their overall confidence and ability to use English in real-life contexts.
